2018 Strengthening Resilience

Strengthening Resilience in Teenage Girls: Grades 5th-8th
Join us for a class that combines introductory yoga and breathing techniques while helping teen girls build resilience, motivation, self-confidence, emotional regulation, and leadership skills. In order to help model and develop these character traits, we will offer this series to enhance mind and body awareness through movement, neuroscience awareness, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. As individuals develop these skills, other areas of life such as academics, social connections and future goals become more attainable. Sessions run for four weeks, meeting every Wednesday for 90 minutes after school. Students should wear comfortable clothes that they can move and breathe in. Yoga mats will be provided.  Students will be participating in a 45 minute yoga session, focusing on meditation and matching breathing and movement. This will be followed by a 45-minute group session, in which students will learn techniques in developing mind, body, and spirit awareness, self-awareness and confidence, combined with healthy coping strategies for anxiety and stress.

About The Leaders: Jill Chickedantz has been teaching English at ZCHS for 13 years, and has completed a 200-Hour Comprehensive Yoga Training Program, focusing on Yoga Asana, Methodology and Physiology.  She has taught classes to both teens and adults, and has volunteered through Indy Yoga Movement. Laura Weaver has been working with youth and young adults for nearly 16 years as a Licensed School Counselor and Therapist. Her practice includes helping individuals process their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as they gain a greater understanding of themselves. Her practice includes adventure therapy, mindfulness, and holistic health techniques.
